I think the FPS storm in dying down so I wouldn't be too worried. Most or a large part of the big games this year were shooters, but look at 2012, you've got GTAV, Mass effect 3, Bioshock infinite, The Last of us, Alan wake, XCOM: Enemy unknown, Diablo 3, Tomb raider, Max Payne, The Last Guardian, Twisted metal, SSX and a shit-ton more.
The biggest shooters next year will be the next COD, Syndicate, Dust 514 and possibly Medal of Honor 2.

yeah thats true, but they could put out some really good games of diff variety other than shooting everything lol. i think Quanitic Dream did great with Heavy Rain & i think they are the perfect group to make those kind of games and hoping they release another, Rockstar with LA Noire was a switch up but still had shooting, & the main guy for LA Noire is writing a game about one of the greatest untold mysteries in amercian history so maybe that would be something good

The variety in games you want do exist, though a lot of them either weren't AAA titles or were downloadables. Again, next year will bring you a lot of games focused on things other than shooting russians and aliens, so don't worry about it, tons of variet in 2012 :P

they do but the kind i want is probably asking to much lol but everybody has their wants. i agree with everything you say and idk i hope they annouce it. that would be a great & a 2012 release would be the icing on the cake lol. i know Vice City is a mixture of Scarface/Blow and they even have a scarface game on ps2 and i read a rumor that it was suppose to come to ps3 in 2010 but thats come and gone. but they could easily use what brotherhood/revelations did with a group of guys you send to do mission and gain rank.. just you start out low, climb the ranks and decide to make your own gang then recruit people and build your empire & you could do an online thing or something with gang battles to gain rank or something fun.. 3rd person like GTA .. it could work & i think if they did it right it would sell good.

Well I guess if enough people want a game like that, publishers and developers will catch on. And hey we still don't know what GTAV will include, it may not be exactly that but it does revolve around crime and possibly gangs.
I remember a couple years ago the games loads of people wanted were open-world zombie RPGs, now we've got the successor to Dead island and class3 (codename) in the works.
