It would probably easier to lower the price point with the existing moel.  No re-tooling or R&D required.  

I dont see the point, but given Sony's history it may well happen.

They already have the staff and the tools on hand.

The other option is to work on the ps4, or slim vita, or fire them. It's not like the workers doing stuff suddenly costs them money.
