Although you're entitled to your opinion, that's terrible reasoning...

1.  Do you really think that the Wii would have had such a stellar performance if it was priced at $499?  Nintendo priced the 3DS too high at launch and had a bad launch lineup.  Now that the price and software have been rectified, the 3DS is hardly "doing pretty bad".  Try doing some research, like, the recent sales data on this very site.  Or perhaps the following threads:

2.  Lol, the "quote" you're reffering to was some random editor who made a ludicrous prediction after misconstruing what Reggie said in an interview.  Nintendo never said or inferred that Wii U would be closer to $600 than $250.
