If it was doom and gloom, it wouldn't be saying things like:

"Contrary to speculation around the industry, the PlayStation Vita isn't dead in the water."

"Let's not forget that it's only been released in one territory that represents well under 20 percent of the worldwide gaming market."

"The Vita's launch lineup in North America is outrageously impressive..."

What the article does discuss, is the disadvantages the Vita has at the moment, both with regards to marketing, pricing and competition. It's a relevant subject, seeing as the Vita has infact put up disappointing sales. But the article also says that it's still early days, and nothing can be said for certain from these numbers.

We can agree that it's not a complete analysis, and to get the full picture we'd all have to wait some time, but it's an analysis none the less. And frankly, I agree with much of what is concluded. Requiring expensive memory cards for people to play certain games is not a good idea, when the system itself is already a pricey product, and a bundle with a 4 GB memory card would solve that issue completely. Marketing should be coming closer to launch though, so I don't see a big issue in that.

you make it sound as if those statements by default not make it a doom article or something. It's still a panic driven mumbo jumbo. the mere fact none of these articles look in depth at the Jp situation is almost shocking...almost. The device is still LAUNCHING for crying out loud. Marketing push should be aimed primarily on the holiday season not in March. As Sony have said the first year is all about the core gamers, really no need for too much marketing for them.

let me rephrase then, a poor analysis. One that you might expect from Patchy. State some obvious beaten to death issues, no in depth analysis, throw in some rambling about how no one struck up a convo about the psv and bam! IGN presents..an article!

Don't get me wrong, the article is filled with sensationalism, but it brings up some relevant subjects none the less. The way Sony is handling memory cards, for example, feels like it's trying to hide the real cost of the device from the consumer, while breaking promises that could easily have been fulfilled.

If the article is supposed to be a way of finding the factors keeping the Vita from being succesful, it is indeed quite poor and practically irrelevant. But if it's supposed to be a way of communicating to Sony what kind of improvements consumers would like in the Vita package, it's much more relevant.

but that's the problem here...the fact that customers are not happy with mem card prices is common knowledge and have been mentioned in dozens of mainstream articles now. But the article brings nothing new to the table. Not in content nor in thinking. The article TSA did was much better at least compared to this, that article was bascially saying hold your horses for a sec! which is absolutely true. I have yet to find one single mainstream article that discusses the Jp situation properly, not a single one. I was actually thinking of doing a detailed thread here on the matter but the way some are coming out en mass to bash the device with snarky and spiteful comments made me change my mind.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the situation is rosy...but it's not dire either. The gen is just starting and if anyone is capable of a comeback..that would be Sony. History has shown that much at least.

I guess I'm a little tired of all these articles you know...

I'm With You... if this title: "Is A Perfect Storm Sinking the PlayStation Vita?" it's not for trolling of create fanboy wars, what's it?

On the other Way... http://www.siliconera.com/2011/12/26/can-you-defeat-king-of-orcs-and-king-of-giants-in-ragnarok-odyssey/

This title Ragnarok odissey looks very good, it come to Japan Feb,2 and it have GameArts seal of Quality or i hope so... I liked Grandia II... Slowly the Vita will be filled with games I think that it needs are some atractive Packs like: PSVita +4gb MC for the same 250$ that the WiFi version cost... I'm sure that most of people are going to buy 8gb or more MC so a 4GB MC as Gift would be great... the System would be ready to go since you bougth it...
