If God of War wants some immense gains in sales, it's going to need something to increase its value for the common consumer. The quality is there, but there really isn't any incentive for the average Joe to hold on to it. I know plenty of people who justed rented GoW3 or bought it and sold it. I know my small perspective may not be telling of consumers everywhere but I think it's a similar case around most PS3 consumers.
If you look at the big games on the PS360 today, nearly all of them have quality AND value. That value could be online multiplayer, enormous content, offline multiplayer, huge open worlds, etc.
God of War has the quality. It's a surprisingly well known franchise to most PS3 owners. People will play the game. But, because of the low value, most people play it, but that doesn't mean they'll buy it, or keep it. A lot of people, again this is from my perspective, simply rent it, sell it, or just borrow it from a friend since they're likely to only play the campaign and be done with it. Now, how could God of War acquire more value? I don't know, that's up to the developers to execute.
Not that God of War really needs much more replay value. It's already a pretty big franchise and the quality is superb. I'm personally fine with the God of War franchise. It doesn't really need any changes, unless of coarse, SM sees something huge and goes for it.
