Hey who knows? The whole thing hoo-hah about smartphones taking over dedicated handhelds might just be a some massive conspiracy theory put in place by mobile phone manufacturers wanting to take over the market.
That being said, SCREW YOU CNET. To "die" in 2012? Hell no. 3DS is way far from being dead, and Sony still can do a hell lot more to save the Vita. Sales numbers to shrink? The most likely scenario would be a little, but to "die"? Lolwut.
And Vita would surely release, whether anyone likes it or not. Shipments are now underway, ads, everything. Sony has put in too much to simply just cancel the launching of the Vita in the US. And since Sony is going to leverage on the Vita to save its ass as a corporation, risking failure on the handheld's part, they'll be screwed if they don't release it, but they might also still get screwed if they release it (if sales are disastrous). But since that's the most feasible way of saving its own ass from further losses, they'll risk and go on with it, no?
