That's a really good point actually. One major reason why WP7 devices are not selling so great yet is because Microsofts hardware requirements for WP7 devices have been extremely high. The advantage is of course that all WP7 devices so far have high-end, top-notch hardware - the downside however is that they are high-price too, making them uninteresting for the majority of customers.

But meanwhile Microsoft is aware of this problem, they have meanwhile lowered the hardware requirements, thus allowing for somewhat cheaper devices as well.


I think this was a problem at launch but these days those hardware specs aren't that high. I mean single core only, 1 ghz is pretty common, screen rez is standard and 256 ram/8GB is not that much to ask for as well.

So yeah, I don't think the specs are that high anymore. I honestly think its remarkable how smooth they are keeping the OS experience across the board after mango update, even with last gen devices like Dell Venue Pro which only have 256 megs of RAM.

I think WP7 main problem is OEM relationships/confidence and that Windows logo on the back on the phone. People have preconceived notions about that Windows logo...and rightfully so as windows phones have been very buggy in the past(windows mobile) 

My problem with that, though, is that there is a relatively small amount of consumers that used Windows Mobile devices.  The predecessors to the current smartphones were not mainstream in any way shape or form.

I still think it's the carriers refusal to promote WP in their advertising or by their personel.  I witnessed again today at a T-Mobile store with a friend of mine.  We came over there to show him the Radar and all the guy did was talk up Android.  He actually said Android apps are better than iPhone apps.  When we left, I picked everything he said apart for my friend and explained to him what's going on.  Still a shame.
