Angry Birds, I would say is in the family of artillery duel games that include Scorched Earth and Worms.  It has its own angle, but the idea is to fling things and destroy structures to hit targets on the map.  It is just the latest version of this old computer game that has been around for decades.

My favorite version was the super old one where you were two giant monkeys throwing exploding banana's at each other
