I disagree. The 3DS launched with Layton and Nintendogs, which I would argue are much bigger in Japan than HSG and Uncharted (respectively). Hot Shots Golf is a popular series in Japan, but it's hardly a system seller. And Uncharted is a shooter. Combine that with (as you mentioned) the launch of Monster Hunter on the 3DS on the same week, and it just wasn't a fair battle.
