Since people continue to claim PS3 undertracked during holidays and 360 overtracked (and most that say this believe by 100s of thousands.) I repost this from 3 days ago. postoffficebuddy dug up the individual weekly threads from last year November and December.  I then used excel to produce the information below the links.

Summary: PS3 was adjusted 3,713 up and 360 adjusted down 88,663. The 360 adjustment down was solely because of the reported sales for the week after Christmas where 360 was in incredibly short supply.  Without that week the 360 adjustments were up nearly 100,000.

Looks like the PS3 from BF through the end of the year was adjusted net up of 3,713.

Looks like the 360 from BF through the end of the year was adjusted net down 88,663 which can be attributed nearly all to the final week when VGC was not yet aware of 360 shortages. Actually prior to that final week the adjustments were net up 99,169.

Actually, now I remember thanks to SolidSnake08.  I'm petty sure it was mostly undertracked in Sept-Oct due to VGC underestimating the impact from the Move launch.  But then we got tracking numbers from Nintendo, which showed that the PS3 was actually outselling the 360, when we had the 360 previously outselling it.  By the time Black Friday and December rolled around, they had got their tracking more in line to what it was actually selling.

So then you are willing to say that there is no reason to assume one way or another that PS3 adjustments will be any more or any less than 360 adjustments that may or may not be made over the next couple of months?

Well, considering they had the PS3 undertracked by ~150K in the US alone last month, I wouldn't exactly say there is no reason for doubt.  All I know is that since I have been a member, when it comes to adjustments the PS3, for the most part, is adjusted up, while the 360 is usually spot on or dropped down slightly.  Of course, I'm not going to go around posting undertracked without an actual reason, which I will admit some do.  Like last month I was saying the PS3 was undertracked, which it was.  But my reasoning was that after doing the math, the amount of stock of holiday bundles in each store would have been too low for Black Friday.

And those adjustment has already been made.  I would not be surprised at all if the VGC numbers in December dont match up with the NPD numbers. I would not be surprised one bit to see the 360 numbers on VGC to low.  With all the great deals on the 360 that were available the past two weeks I expected the 360 lead on the PS3 to grow. I expected the 360 to hit 3 million in the US in December.  Still I am not going to include that in the speculation threads that go on day to day, week to week.  I also believe that PS3 numbers were tracked low because Sony was so quiet after Black Friday weekend leading to the belief that the PS3 didnt do so well.  Before people go well PS3 will then be undertracked as well in December there is 1 key difference between Black Friday and December for the PS3 and that is the lack of the Black Friday bundle for $200.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
