I'd still consider Sega CD and 32X as add ons even if they used different formats. They still needed to be docked to the Genesis. Also, they would be listed in wikipedia under the the 5th generation if they weren't considered add ons. The successor to the Genesis is listed as the Saturn. I don't see how you guys are getting stuck ont his "add-on" word. Genesis, sega cd, and 32X are 3 full blown consoles that sega decided to bundle together in hopes that they would get people to buy all 3.
Gaming console is an ecosystem. Games available define that ecosystem.
If an "addon" has completely different games which are not found anywhere else, it has its own ecosystem and hence should be considered a console. This is why Nintendo DSi, XL, Sega Nomad...etc... aren't standalone consoles. They all just play other console games.
And they would be considered the 5th gen as Sega decided to support 3 different consoles the same generation...

So the Eyetoy, a piece of hardware which plays its own games - but needs another console to play them - is also it's own console just like the 32X. No different between the two in reality. IT's a piece of hardware you attatch to another console to play unique games on, no?

there is a big difference actually. with the eye toy you get to play a dozen or so ps2 made games which support a camera addon.
sega cd and 32x have their own dedicated hardware components and capabilities and need specific software development for that hardware. making a game for them is like making a game for any standalone console.

They're still both just pieces of hardware that play games on a console that otherwise couldn't be played without it, which use some of the original console to perform processing. Perhaps the extra RAM stick that went into the N64 is a better example, it again does the exact same thing as the SEGA devices but you conceed (I assume) it would be laughable to be considered its own console.
I'm only throwing these examples in as they make your reasoning look at foolish as it is. The simple fact you acknowledge the devices as being different to 'standalone consoles' in your closing sentence is a consolation that you accept they're not standalone consoles but infact addons.
