To be fair to the Mayans their culture ended after a long period of drought centuries before the Spanish set foot.
Americans also had to rely on lamas as their only useful domesticated animal, whereas Eurasia was blessed with donkeys, horses, camels, cows and what not. Making food supply and therefore development that much easier
