I was always under the impression that updates were only a rare thing to Samsung customers.

I'd put Samsung down as the worst offender, especially since they somehow managed to screw up WP7 updates, but pretty much all of the Android vendors are lacklustre:

A couple disclaimers on that link:

1. It's iOS and Android only. WP7 doesn't have enough history to measure and Symbian's kinda non-existant in the US, but I wish he'd thrown a couple Blackberries in the mix.

2. It's US-only. It could be that similar models sold in other markets have seen better support... or worse. Also, you won't see Symbian or Bada showing up on the list for that reason.

If you want good, official software support on an Android device, buy the latest Nexus whatever. If you can't for whatever reason, HTC is the least worst when it comes to support. If you buy Samsung or Motorola... I hope you like rooting devices!
