If they are serious (at all) about making their fiscal prediction, they *do* need to do something.
I will be in shock however if this happens. I can't believe Sony is *so* adverse to actually making money. This would be bordering on "console dumping" (getting rid of their excess stock).
It seems much more likely, a lot closer to the '08 holidays - doing it now just seems wrong (again, unless its dumping - maybe canceling the 40gig model, and bringing in something new).
Might also be a new strategy to push BluRay even harder.

Anyway, the price (in Australia) still has a long way to fall before its price competitive. I'm not spending $700AU on a PS3 (that comes with nothing), and doesn't play PS2 games. Maybe $299 or $399.
MS will definitely drop their price to match, and Ninty will do nothing in response (Wii still selling out).

This still seems like the WRONG time to me - maybe when GTA or some other big title hits - but not now, when everyone is just recovering from the holidays spending spurge!
