It won't be a good sign if Sony isn't able to sell a lot of software with the Vita early on. Their main problem in the 7th generation (with both the PSP and the PS3's first couple years) was the inability to move games. While the 3DS struggled at first, it had some big launch games (such as Layton) and certainly hasn't struggled to push its biggest titles. Hopefully a title likes Hot Shots Golf has consistent sales and can keep a presence on the Japanese charts going into 2012.
