@Aldro

I have to say it, Snake's character model was hardly movie quality. In the third screen shot on page 4 his shoulder looks incredibly blocky. His face looks great but the polygon count on the rest of his model isn't very high.

Don't know man, maybe my love has blinded me xP. Check out this video though (set to 720p and start at 3:55 to as far as you'd like). I don't know, I honestly feel it looks good xP:

Gotta comment again. Jesus, when I watch this, It is like THIS was the game that ..started the gen for me. I mean I love cinematic games and no, I stand on my same statement. What MGS4 did, and the way it did it blew me away and till' this day; I feel it was the greatest visually and technically on consoles in 2008.

I started at 3:55; 4:01: Liquid's jacket casts low res shadow; 4:04 Solid's extremely blocky shoulder comes into full view; 4:05 Liquid's name tag looks appalling; 4:18 the shadows on the pole are completely broken; 4:37 Liquids hair clips down into his jacket. You know what, console games look like garbage and critiquing them is like nitpicking a loaf of stale bread :/

Look at the bigger picture and don't just nitpick. You could nitpick any game to pieces, even BF3 on PC.

Battlefield 3 hardly looks perfect either (although much better than MGS4). I'm just saying that about every scene has issues that detract from the visuals, most notably the ever present muddy environmental textures and extremely poor light rendering. It's hardly nitpicking when you are reminded of the aforementioned shortcomings every ten seconds.

Im going to look on reviews and see what they said about MGS4.

Hold on mate.

IGN OVR GOTY - "Still, what undoubtedly impressed fans when they first booted up the game in June was how damn good this thing looked. Your opening mission moves from a dust and sand-laden cinema to dust and sand-laden environment. Snake's new sneaking suit looked slick, the maps were detailed, and Naomi's blouse was (thankfully) devoid of buttons. Throughout Metal Gear's time in the disc drive, gamers were treated to a land of visual delights."

IGN review - "Incredibly detailed and visually breathtaking, with amazing camera angles, MGS4 is one of the most beautiful titles ever made."

Giantbomb review - "There are sequences here that come close to fulfilling the promises of Sony’s famously overblown Killzone 2 trailer, in terms of their visual fidelity and the intensity of the action. I honestly had to remind myself more than once I was playing a video game and not a CG movie."

Gamereactor review - "Pure graphically, MGS4 is very, very, very beautiful with fantastic character models, amazing vibrant color and wonderful lightning. Its missing a little regarding the texture- and animation part but pure generally, this is one if not the greatest looking games on the PS3." 2008.. the standard was really low compared to now, really.

I just wanted to see if the critics said anything in particular, but no. I was around then. MGS4 was truly mind blowing for me in 08.

Sorry but the critics unanimously failed to criticize GTAIV. I remember when I booted up MGS4 for the first time and my friend Drew criticized the graphics almost as much as the story :/

@pezus

You don't play many PC games do you? Battlefield 3's engine has some serious issues and the overall production values fall short of games like Crysis and Metro 2033.
