Sure, as a customer getting into Sony handhelds for the first time I'd say that argument is justifiable.
As a customer who owns a ps3 and knows they went 6B into the hole padding it with features, I'd say it's not a big deal that I have to spend 30-50 dollars on a proprietary memory card.
Shit, mem cards on ps2 and ps1 used to be 35$ or so as well, and those were proprietary. I just don't see it as a big deal. Other people can feel free to do so.

Want to know why I like the PS3 and had no issues buying one? Because I knew I could just toss any 2.5 inch HDD in there, and I did. It's a WD black 500GB so I even have 5 years of warranty on it, which is longer than the PS3 warranty, on top of it being on sale and I got it super cheap. When you release a product, you want to make it attractive especially to your current product users, by doing shit like this where I have to buy 3 memory cards at a premium just so I can have different accounts where I won't be locked out of DLC content is fucking bull shit and I'm a very value oriented shopper. Shit like this is what MS would possibly do, and that's part of the reason why I sold my 360 because MS gaming division jacks the shit out of your wallet for no good reason other than to feed on sheeps. I don't know how Sony can convince me to buy a Vita atm when I have 3 active PSN accounts. I'm Asian, I understand other languages, shocker! It's just not good for people like me. At least I have the option of never buying one I guess.....

OK, I speak ENglish French and conversational japanese, so games help me learn.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's 250$ for a vita. That is retardedly cheap for what you're getting inside it.

You know they are selling these at a loss. The mem card is probably the only thing that keeps it profitable. I'd say that it takes a Vita, one proprietary game, and a mem card to break even. Have you seen the specs on it!?

You are forgetting one very very important thing, we are consumers, we shouldn't be the ones giving a rat's ass about if they are selling something at a loss, that's not our problem, there is no reason to defend them when I see 32GB cards for that price that's absolutely not future proof when SDXC cards are on the rise(fast as shit and go up to 2TB.) Oh, and I don't need to learn those languages(Eng, Chn, Jpn,) I know them pretty well by default, I'm an actual consumer of those regions. The PS3 model worked great and I gladly handed over my money, but if I'm not given the flexibility to do things easily at a good cost, all is naught for me, because trust me, Sony more than made their money back with me already with the PS3, if this shit is going to cost me a grand total of 400 USD after tax, fuck it, I'd rather pick up another 3DS for my brother at 170 with a 2GB card "included" so I can play Mario Kart 7 with him. It's all about what it looks to the mass consumer, the mass consumer will not take the side of Sony and say "hey, they are selling at a loss, so it's OK to over price that other thing that you are required to have." It's bullshit.

PS: It's worse for people like you and me who have to buy multiple memory cards.............

Yeah but who says it's going to be 400$ after tax? 350 at most with 2 games maybe. I guess 400 for the 3g version.

And if you think that 3ds to play MK7 is a better deal, then by all means, get that instead. Maybe the vita with a card is 125$ more, but you're getting a lot more in it too. You're getting reliable multiplayer, access to a much more dynamic variety of games, great hardware, OLED screen. New input innovation with the back trackpad, and head tracking...3d based on the angle of the console. You can turn the console and see things behind other things in the foreground, facial recognition..etc

We're not just talking better hardware and graphics, we're talking access to new experiences.

Sure you don't like the comparison of selling at a loss, but ps3 also opened the path for new experiences. These innovations are much different than the Vita, but for the first time on a console, you could download demos and content from other regions at a minimal cost. And who knows, perhaps they will open up the playstation store a lot more to give access to more regions. The Vita will also support Apps. Nobody says an App can't get you the games from other regions.

You really need to take another look at the situation because while it is expensive, well, I think it's worth it.

There is no such thing as reliable multiplayer even on PC, not to mention you make it sound like Vita is the only platform with a big variety of games.

The masses don't care about what hardware is inside a device when they buy a handheld, it's a price war as usual.

OLED produces good image quality, but if you have such a hard on for it, then you should already know the problems with it, other than the really nice contrast, it's a marketing thing more than anything else. They still haven't resolved the issue with blue OLED life span(shorter life overall too but won't be an issue unless you play a shit ton everyday though,) there is a chance of screen burn in, it drains the battery like the biggest mofo under conditions where there are a lot of whites on the screen, and I really hope that Sony will put UV protection over these displays or they'll get trashed super fast.

I'll list the things for you that shows you why Sony is not an innovator and they don't bring new experiences but rather try to refine them. Touchpad, motion sensing, head tracking that's useless on such a small device, software features other devices already have. I've argued this with other people so many times, Sony is not an innovative company anymore, they refine stuff, they generally market experiences already avaliable else where with commercial power just like any big company, and that is fine, but they have no idea wtf they are doing anymore when it comes to marketing or setting things at a price where it makes sense for the people in this kind of economy. 250 dollars, cool, expensive media that's required for you to use the system, fail.

PS3 didn't open up any new paths for me btw, I'm a PC gamer, and that's why I found the PS3 to be the superior choice when it comes down to HD consoles in the end, and also it ended up having more JRPGs which worked out great for me after I sold my 360. The thing right now is though, if they keep doing down this path, I might end up not having a Vita at all since Nvidia is going super hard on Android devices and that'll eventually turn into a platform(it kind already is, and who knows what Windows 8 will bring to the tablet world....) and with the software engineering capabilities of Nvidia, I don't know if the Vita will matter to me in a few years since I mainly just play portable games on portable devices.
