God of War CoO is nowhere near as good as God of War 3, its just a shorter, uglier GOW with no memorable bosses with a forgettable story. Funny how you said nothing about Rayman though, how the exact same game on both Wii and PS3 can get a considerably higher score on the Wii. |
I believe one of the biggest problems that afflicted the COD games on the Wii, rather than the controls, was the fact that the games were downgraded to 30 FPS when they were designed for 60 FPS which led to a much less responsiveness from the game which was heightened by the fact that the motion controls responsiveness is supossed to be fast. At least that's what all critical reviews point at and my limited playing time with COD:MW Reflex showed me. I do agree with the MP portion though.
Having played The Conduit and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption extensively, both which are not rail shooters, my experience with them was far more satisfactory than playing with a dual analog setup because it's more similar than playing with a mouse in terms of responsiveness.
Character design on Pokemon is your own personal choice. Everybody likes different designs, thus that not being an actual comparison point for quality. As for the fact of triple battles adding nothing, I would beg to differ since on official tournaments, Rotation and Triple battles are beginning to take higher value than Double battles, which shows that the public perception to them is positive and that it was a positive addition. Alas, it was not the only addition and step forward in the series, as I pointed out.
Actually, couting Minecraft, Shogun 2 and The Witcher 2, you're right, most of the top games on PC are multiplatform. But isn't that the same scenario for consoles as well. In this GOTY count, the only exclusives were a PS3 and a Wii game, which by itself invalidates the claims that Wii games shouldn't compete with PS3 or 360 ones.
My point regarding the PC was made solely on your last claim that there are tiers of expectations for games based on their consoles, which is a faux pas, given that games are expected to deliver quality regardless of the console or hardware that they're developed for. If this were to be true, then automatically those three PC games would have much higher value since the perceived expectation of a PC exclusive game overshadows anything a PS3 or 360 game had to do, which is clearly not the case.
That's your opinion of CoO, not the general critical peer review. My opinion is that GoW 3 is a non-sensical continuation of what used to be a good story, which fortunately CoO managed to capture. Memorable bosses? The only thing remotely memorable about GoW 3 bosses was that some were big, which is nothing that hasn't been done before. I'd take the battle with Persephone at the end of CoO any day over any boss in GoW 3, as it was actually challenging and didn't use any gimmicky WOW factor.
I didn't talk about rayman because I haven't played neither the Wii version nor the PS3 version. But there can be a varied number of reasons why a game gets a higher score on the Wii version or vice-versa. Probably the controls of the Wii version are better suited for the game or maybe it's a smoother experience. Chalking it up to lower expectations of the Wii version is, in fact, a very poor argument.
