Well, I've been playing FPSs on both the Wii and PS3&360 and all of those consoles have examples of poorly implemented controls. Then again, i'm more used to the KB+Mouse setup, which is vastly superior in terms of adaptability and reactions than any console input simply because of it's layout.

Not to say that console FPSs don't have good commands, but adaptation to one or other setup takes time. For example, I much prefer the FPS setup of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption than that of COD 4: MW on the PS3 (my only COD for consoles), because not only is it more accurate, it also allows me to perform pinpoint manouvers that which with a dual analog stick I can't do.

While I agree that most pokemon games do copy and paste from the previous iterations, just adding a new story and a new set of pokemon, there have been entries that have advanced the series. Again, that's where White/Black come in, since it's the entry that has added a lot to the pokemon formula, be it with a new focus on storyline (which was rather well done, for being Game Freak's first attempt), new dynamic battle systems (The triple and rotation battles) a complete revamp of the PVP system and massive overall changes to moves and setups.

In the case of MW, I see no reason why they shouldn't use the same formula if it works for their fans. I've got no qualms against it as it has been shown to work and that a lot of people enjoy it. What I do have a qualm about is when in the case of MW that usually means no harm in the eyes of the majority of the critics and in other cases repetition of the same formula means stagnation (mostly RPGS suffer from these kind of dual standards).

Xenoblade wasn't put up for GOTY for the single reason that it hasn't come out in every part of the world, just EU and JP. Then again, when was the last time you saw a JRPG game being put up for GOTY, even if it had much more quality than any other game? Those kind of RPGs aren't mass market and public perception of them isn't as wide as a game like Uncharted, Gears or COD has, thus the critics perception also has to take in account that factor.

Expectations of what a game should or should not do, based on the console is a faux pas. In that regard, then the only games that should ever get GOTY recognition and would be deserving of such would have to be PC games, because you can't expect a PS3 or 360 to do the same as a PC in terms of sheer performance or capacity in terms of development, thus by those standards Minecraft should also be a GOTY contender. Plus, PC peer reviewers (like PC Gamer) tend to be much harsher on their reviews due to the high expectations behind a PC game.

By what measuring stick are you saying that GoW 3 is vastly superior than GoW: Chain of Olympus? Your own opinion or the fact that one is on the PS3 and the other is on the PSP? Because to me, owning both, Chain of Olympus is better than GoW 3, which in fact I consider to be the worst GoW out there as it completely butchers the story (which began being butchered on GoW 2). In terms of gameplay both games are similar and in terms of scale, CoO has a massive scale in terms of what the PSP can do, just like GoW3 on the PS3.

That's argument is a strawman argument, as it has no basis other than your own perception of what a game should be, which seems to me (and correct me if i'm wrong), more expansive graphical output.

Like i said theres a reason nobody buys FPS games for the Wii. Just with MW3 and how it sold so well on PS3 and Xbox whereas it sold chump change on the Wii, everybody knows the motion sensoring just does not work for these type of games and the multiplayer experience is dire. Thats why alot of these shooters are on rails like Resident Evil Chronicles or House of the Dead, that works well because its game play is limited to point and shoot, but something like MW3 it just cant handle well at all.

As for Pokemon, the game having triple battles is nothing, thats not a worthwhile addition. I would not go out to buy that game just because of something as meager as that. Its still going to be the same game with inferior character designs no matter if there was 5vs5 battles.

PC games should win but they dont bring out good quality games often, forgetting MMO's, theres nothing exlusive to the PC like Uncharted or Batman Arkham City, 9 of the 10 top rated PC games this year are multiplatform, the one that isnt is Shogun 2 some turn based stategy game. Nobodys going to bring out big quality PC games out exlusive to PC because people hardly buy PC games anymore that are non MMO.

God of War CoO is nowhere near as good as God of War 3, its just a shorter, uglier GOW with no memorable bosses with a forgettable story. Funny how you said nothing about Rayman though, how the exact same game on both Wii and PS3 can get a considerably higher score on the Wii.

I believe one of the biggest problems that afflicted the COD games on the Wii, rather than the controls, was the fact that the games were downgraded to 30 FPS when they were designed for 60 FPS which led to a much less responsiveness from the game which was heightened by the fact that the motion controls responsiveness is supossed to be fast. At least that's what all critical reviews point at and my limited playing time with COD:MW Reflex showed me. I do agree with the MP portion though.

Having played The Conduit and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption extensively, both which are not rail shooters, my experience with them was far more satisfactory than playing with a dual analog setup because it's more similar than playing with a mouse in terms of responsiveness.

Character design on Pokemon is your own personal choice. Everybody likes different designs, thus that not being an actual comparison point for quality. As for the fact of triple battles adding nothing, I would beg to differ since on official tournaments, Rotation and Triple battles are beginning to take higher value than Double battles, which shows that the public perception to them is positive and that it was a positive addition. Alas, it was not the only addition and step forward in the series, as I pointed out.

Actually, couting Minecraft, Shogun 2 and The Witcher 2, you're right, most of the top games on PC are multiplatform. But isn't that the same scenario for consoles as well. In this GOTY count, the only exclusives were a PS3 and a Wii game, which by itself invalidates the claims that Wii games shouldn't compete with PS3 or 360 ones.
My point regarding the PC was made solely on your last claim that there are tiers of expectations for games based on their consoles, which is a faux pas, given that games are expected to deliver quality regardless of the console or hardware that they're developed for. If this were to be true, then automatically those three PC games would have much higher value since the perceived expectation of a PC exclusive game overshadows anything a PS3 or 360 game had to do, which is clearly not the case.

That's your opinion of CoO, not the general critical peer review. My opinion is that GoW 3 is a non-sensical continuation of what used to be a good story, which fortunately CoO managed to capture. Memorable bosses? The only thing remotely memorable about GoW 3 bosses was that some were big, which is nothing that hasn't been done before. I'd take the battle with Persephone at the end of CoO any day over any boss in GoW 3, as it was actually challenging and didn't use any gimmicky WOW factor.

I didn't talk about rayman because I haven't played neither the Wii version nor the PS3 version. But there can be a varied number of reasons why a game gets a higher score on the Wii version or vice-versa. Probably the controls of the Wii version are better suited for the game or maybe it's a smoother experience. Chalking it up to lower expectations of the Wii version is, in fact, a very poor argument.
