While he has a lot of very significant negatives (primarily that he is a flip-flopping politician that represents the "establishment") he is a well-spoken, intelligent individual with lots of ideas and has experience that puts him as one of the most qualified to be president in either party. It really shouldn't be that difficult to see why people like him ...
In my opinion though, I'm not sure I know what kind of president he would be. In many ways the thing that makes me distrust and dislike him the most, that he is a very successful establishment politician, is also one of the things that can make him very effective. From his experience as speaker of the house I'm certain that Newt would have unique insight into "getting his way" regardless of what party is in charge of the congress. At the same time, I have doubts that an insider like Newt would be willing to push for the changes that are needed to "fix" the political system or economy of the United States.
