Pretty much everything you say sounds convincing and I really can't draw a fair comparison between all those QBs, because I've never seen those old ones play. Well, I did see Marino and Elway when they were on their way out. Marino was already past his peak though, but Elway ended his career with two Super Bowl wins. I wonder how Tebow would play when confronted with the rules of the '80s. He struggles to get to 50 % completion with the current rules... Speaking of which, I checked the stats of Sunday's game at the end of the third quarter and Tebow was like 3/15. I guess you watched the entire game. Did you see some sort of divine intervention in the fourth quarter? |
Yes. Marion Barber ran out of bounds with less than two minutes after Denver scored a touchdown on a 60 something yard drive. That gave the Broncos a good 40 or more seconds before the game ended, and allowed Prater to kick a 59 yard field goal to send it into overtime. I believe Tebow was 15 for 20 in the last quarter, including a spike to stop the clock (I think?). In overtime, the Bears got the ball first and were in field goal range, when Marion had the ball stripped and the Broncos recovered. They set up a 51 yard field goal for Prater who hit it with plenty to spare.
To be fair, Demaryius Thomas did drop what would have been a touchdown, and Prater also had a 28 yard field goal blocked. Also, a lot of those other incompletions in the first three quarters were dropped. Something like 4 or 5, which would have put Tebow at about 50% completion for the rest of the game too. Against Tebow (aside from the awful 3/15 completions) was the fumble and interception, which I believe was his worst game for turnovers this year. I could be wrong on that though.
