Ugh ... do we need another zombie game? Survival horror used to be so much more of an inventive and creative genre. Resident Evil had zombies (which was way before the big trend kicked in), Fatal Frame had ghosts, Silent Hill had abstractions from the main character's mind, and, more recently, Condemned preyed on our fear of homeless people.

That issue aside, the trailer was just a little too bright and uncharted-esque for me to consider this a survival horror game. We have seen everything in this trailer before already too ... Dead Island (the little girl being used as a device to spice up the trailer and give us the idea that the game will have an interesting story beyond the standard "kill all the zombies" dynamic) fallout (post apoc setting) Dead Rising 2 and Silent Hill 1 (father and daughter story) and left 4 dead (special infected zombie). I just don't see an identity for this game yet ... maybe it will get one when more info is released, but a trailer should at least give us some idea of a game's "angle."

I also don't like the idea of having the daughter character around either. Hopefully, she just gets kidnapped a lot or is stuck in a closet some where for the majority of the game.

given that all we've seen is two minutes with no gameplay i'm not too surprised... how about we give naughty dog some time to actually show more before we come to unfounded conclusions?

"do we need another zombie game?" btw i don't think the enemies are zombies... then again i suppose it depends on your perception of zombies... if anything that runs at you and attacks you in a game is a zombie then yeah i guess they are zombies

I am just going with what I have seen so far. I said (right after the part you underlined) that this game might develop a unique style or signature gameplay mechanic later, but none was presented in this short trailer. I guess if I were making a trailer and I wanted to convince people to buy my game I would put all of the focus on what makes the game stand out from the competition ... something Naughty Dog failed to do with this trailer, but we will see what they come up with in future gameplay footage trailers.

Let's not play semantics here ... they are zombies or zombie-like creatures from the looks of it (reanimated and/or infected corpses that attack people on sight in order to kill and/or eat them). If we want to get technical, dictionary.com says a zombie is a "body of a dead person given the semblance of life, by a supernatural force." By the strict definition, the zombies in films like 28 days later are not "zombies" just people with infections ... same with Left 4 Dead and countless other "zombie" movies/games/books that rely on biological/viral means to create zombies and not supernatural forces. The definition has become much more expansive due to the influx of zombie games/films/books. However, "something that runs at you and attacks" you is a bit too broad a definition for zombies.

Besides, even if they are not zombies they (based on what we saw) are close enough. I just want more games/films/books that focus on horror antagonists or forces that are more surreal and interesting ... zombies/zombie like creatures have become just too "normal" that it has gotten to the point where the thought of a crowd of zombies attacking and eating people just doesn't have the impact that it used to.

Nothing is "unfounded" here either. I was just talking about what we saw in the trailer. The game may turn out to be completely different (as was the case with the Dead Island trailer which seemed to suggest an emotional and impactful story, but was, instead, just a marketing tool with the full game almost devoid of any story beyond "get off the island and kill zombies along the way").
