If Skyward Sword doesn't manage to break 500k in Japan, that would probably put the series (In the eyes of Nintendo) about equal to Kirby.  Even Ocarina 3D has managed 450k so far.

Epic Yarn managed 450k... I really can't imagine a mainline Zelda game selling worse than a Kirby game. If it drops below 10k in the next set of numbers, I'll be really shocked. Wind Waker on the Gamecube even managed to sell 885k in Japan. That's fairly huge, considering the size of the Gamecube base (4 Million?)

Let us hope that Nintendo will see Zelda as equal to Kirby, that may lead to some real changes.

I doubt the ZELDA series is in jeopardy, as it's still doing pretty good in America.  It is strange that SKYWARD SWORD hit #1 and sold nearly 200k, but took quite a drop in its second week.  I wouldn't say the series is dead in Japan, just at a difficult point of transition, with Nintendo struggling to figure out what to do with it.  I doubt they'll kill off ZELDA.

Still, even with its rather shocking drop, there's still a chance it'll at least reach 400k, if not 500k.  Yes, it would be a new low for the series in Japan, but it's not a complete failure.  At least America are making up the most of its sales.  I expect the WiiU release of ZELDA to be much more simplistic in its controls department.  That and try not to release it too late or too early into the next system's cycle.

"In the case of Skyward Sword it's tracking pretty similar to what Twilight Princess did when it was released, so Skyward Sword could at least be able to hit the 500k mark.  Of course I wonder if because of Motion+ controls the game be too complicated for the Japanese audience which could hurt it's word of mouth."
