It would require edge detection (probably less accurate), and the PS3 (my fav console) uses a standard controller.
It only really works if you point at the screen with something (not technically, but as far as emersion). I think it fits with how you play the Wii. Moving around your living room, and then clicking buttons on the SIXAXIS just seem odd.
