I didn't even know about the entire Vichy France / being allied with Germany until I played a Civ3 scenario. I just assumed in the past that they were just entirely occupied by Germany after losing. Apparently, I must have missed (or forgot) any History Channel special discussing France after they were defeated. I have seen a few recent shows/documentaries on France discussing Vichy France (such as providing labor for Germany in exchange for releasing French POWs, propaganda that spewed from the Vichy government, the role of the Vichy government, etc..).
