I don't doubt that it happens, but I believe they tend to be in the vast minority of facilities ...

Beyond the obvious (that most people would have difficulty acting in such a cruel way), it is simply bad business to mistreat animals that you're going to eat. Between the impact on quality/taste of the meat, the risk of being shut down for health/safety reasons, facing fines/charges under animal cruelty laws, and large buyers refusing to do business with you for PR reasons, the risks to your business far outweigh any potential returns from using these strategies.

It may sound like an odd "defence" but the reason why they use the impact-hammer/spike to the heads of cows is that it kills them instantaneously which is important because meat from an animal that is stressed when it dies is tough and doesn’t taste good. While you probably wouldn't know why it tasted "off" if you ate beef, pork or chicken from one of these cruel facilities you would probably think that it had gone bad.

i can not disagree with you. you are right.

but it does happen, this video proves it, the thing is, its extremely rare, and when it does happen, it wont be for long.

because like you said its extremely bad business practice, if you treat animals like this, you are going to get found out, and wont be in business very long. for example a recent story about one of the egg suppliers for McDonalds, showed that they abused the chickens. well guess what happened, McDonalds, being the smart company they are, didnt want to be affliated with animal cruelity (because that would lose them business), they dropped that supplying, now that egg farm just lost the biggest buyer they had. and are in big financial trouble.

so no, Mcdonalds gets food from non abusive farms (more suprising was they used real eggs), and the farm that abbused animals, lost a ton of business, and non of this happened because of regulation, but rather the free market.

edit: and i too find it rather funny that they were trying to make it seem as if the nail to head was cruel. thats one of the most painless and quickest ways to go about it. if you want humain slaughter, thats the way you do it. prapaganda sure is funny.

I am, for once, in agreement with you. Ultimately this sort of thing needs to be done

The only caveat i would introduce is that we need people who expose animal cruelty and who make videos like this, because this in turn creates that public demand for humane treatment of animals which serves as the reliable pressure against businesses to only do business with those who are reasonably humane rather than inhumane. If nobody cared, then you get a race to the bottom
