Having been on farms and ranches before, as well as slaughter houses, either things are done drastically different here in Alberta or this video is propaganda involving clips from the worst 0.1% of facilities ...

Personally, I'm betting on propaganda

while yes, this is most certainly propaganda, this still happens.

though not as often as they would like us to believe.

any way, what we can do to solve this problem and eliminate it, is as consumers vote with your wallet.

if a practices actions that you disagree with, simply dont buy from there. these companies will self regulate, if people choose not to buy from them.

consumer reporters, and the consumers themselves is all we need.

edit: and by vote with you wallet, i dont mean choose a vegan diet like this hippy video said to do, i meant choose meat companies that dont do this stuff (read: most of them)

I don't doubt that it happens, but I believe they tend to be in the vast minority of facilities ...

Beyond the obvious (that most people would have difficulty acting in such a cruel way), it is simply bad business to mistreat animals that you're going to eat. Between the impact on quality/taste of the meat, the risk of being shut down for health/safety reasons, facing fines/charges under animal cruelty laws, and large buyers refusing to do business with you for PR reasons, the risks to your business far outweigh any potential returns from using these strategies.

It may sound like an odd "defence" but the reason why they use the impact-hammer/spike to the heads of cows is that it kills them instantaneously which is important because meat from an animal that is stressed when it dies is tough and doesn’t taste good. While you probably wouldn't know why it tasted "off" if you ate beef, pork or chicken from one of these cruel facilities you would probably think that it had gone bad.

i can not disagree with you. you are right.

but it does happen, this video proves it, the thing is, its extremely rare, and when it does happen, it wont be for long.

because like you said its an extremely bad business practice, if you treat animals like this, then you are going to get found out, and you wont be in business very long. for example there was a recent story about one of the egg suppliers for McDonalds, it showed that the farm abused their chickens. Well guess what happened, McDonalds, being the smart company they are, didnt want to be affliated with animal cruelity (because that would lose them business), they dropped that supplier, and now that egg farm just lost the biggest buyer they had. and are in big financial trouble.

so now, Mcdonalds gets food from non-abusive farms (whats more suprising was that they used real eggs), and the farm that abbused animals, lost a ton of business, and none of this happened because of regulation, but rather the free market.

edit: and i too find it rather funny that they were trying to make it seem as if the nail to head was cruel. thats one of the most painless and quickest ways to go about it. if you want humain slaughter, thats the way you do it. prapaganda sure is funny.
