It is. I live in a huge farming area - tons of cows, pigs, ect. I rarely see animals that aren't free range. Heck, about 1/2 of a mile from the town I live in has probably 200 head of cattle in a huge 500 acre field, letting them graze on leftover corn from the harvest.
