This being a huge PS3 dominated site, you have to take what you read with a grain of salt. Ask yourself this, what do your friends have? What type of games do you like? Are you leaning more towards Japanese games or Western games? Do you enjoy shooters? Are you more single player or do you like to play online? Xbox live is the clear runaway winner for online multiplayer. Sony has more exclusives. Xbox has more people to interact with (mic) and more in their big games (Halo, Gears) and multiplat is king on Xbox. You can get an Xbox for cheaper, but Sony has free online play. Are you interested in Blu Rays? The new Xbox Dashboard update is having a ton of additions, many to be used for free. Look that up. Does that interest you at all? I would not get a Wii. New one will be out soon, and a couple years later the new HD consoles will be out and will be far better. I don't think a new HD console will be coming out next year, and maybe not the year after that. 2013 at the earliest, 2014 until they are both out and have a decent userbase.

Like was previously said, PC already has a lot of the multiplats out there, and a lot of the great ones too, like the Mass Effect series, Battlefield, Skyrim, among others. Not to mention PC has the most exclusives. And despite what people here say, it is no where near dead, as this site doesn't track PC sales well at all. If your friends have an Xbox or PS3, see what they would play most with you and what they recommend. Who cares what people here think, you want to be able to play with YOUR friends. If your friends are PC gamers, then stick with the PC. Unless you have the extra money to spend, in which case, get both if you want to (if you have the time to play them). Also, check out other sites and see what their userbase says to your question.
