Well, in theory, 8X DVD spins the disc physically about 4 times faster than 2X BD. But because data is more densely packed in BD their data read speeds are the same. I won't argue with actual data read speeds (I believe there isn't a big difference) but physically disc spins faster in 360. So drive speed does explain noise partly (but not entirely).
