I agree. Nintendo makes the hardware and software while Sony.... well, they release some of their [few] good games on the Nintendo platform... how about that? ;)
Seriously, here is what I think: Japan is becoming more and more portable centric. NA/EU is more console centric. Japanese 3rd parties are selling less and less on consoles. Between Sony and MS, I believe most NA/EU 3rd parties are more inclined to support MS now. Sony isn't Nintendo, it cannot live out of 1st party games like Nintendo. So IMHO they are in trouble next gen, unless the PS4 is something really different...

Oh hell no!! Sony makes the hardware, Nintendo helps them with marketing and and supplies software. Hardware is what Sony does best. It is what Nintendo does the worst. Nintendo much like Apple is a marketing master. They sell you inferior crap hardware in a pretty package and make you believe it is essential to own. Sony sells you expensive hardware and doesn't know how to convey their message to save their lives. Look at the new commercial for their 3D gaming TV. No where would anyone know that you can play two player games full screen while wearing the glasses. So unless you do your research, it just looks like a 24" 3D TV. They failed this way with the PS3 marketing as well. Nintendo on the other hand had everyone wanting a slim Game Cube with shitty GFX that did nothing but play games, most of which were shit. Apple does the same thing with their phones and Ipods. People stand in line to get the newest phone for some rediculous price when their are far better devices for much less money. I think that Sony and Nintendo would however make a great combination. Nintendo has a pretty good stable of first party games, imagine what they could be on good hardware.
