I agree. Nintendo makes the hardware and software while Sony.... well, they release some of their [few] good games on the Nintendo platform... how about that? ;)
Seriously, here is what I think: Japan is becoming more and more portable centric. NA/EU is more console centric. Japanese 3rd parties are selling less and less on consoles. Between Sony and MS, I believe most NA/EU 3rd parties are more inclined to support MS now. Sony isn't Nintendo, it cannot live out of 1st party games like Nintendo. So IMHO they are in trouble next gen, unless the PS4 is something really different...
