No I do not think they will port it to WiiU, porting it would be a waste of resources and wouldn't bring in a profit. Lets face it the small user base that WiiU will have during its first two years which as long as Sonic Generations would likely be given shelf space is not enough to sell Sonic Generations enough to make a port worth while. There are many contributing factors, one being later ports rarely sell as well as the original console unless the console the game is ported too has a larger user base. I will again use Mega Collection as an example the GameCube version sold over two million copies then when it was ported to 360/PS2 the PS2 version only did about 2.5. That was with 100,000 extra units in gamer hands. Another fact to remember is a lot of the early adopters of Nintendo hardware are "Actual gamers" meaning they likely own a competitors console and would likely already own a copy. A third factor is the game would be going up against newer titles with larger advertising budgets and more hype, chances that a game over a year old based in the Sonic universe taking on the launch titles from Nintendo or even UbiSoft or THQ is going to be slim. Rumor has it Sonic WiiU is already in development, I would say that is most likely the case and within a year or two of WiiU's release a new glorious Sonic title will grace the WiiU. Secret Rings was revealed alongside Wii and I wouldn't put it past Sega to have a Sonic game ready to show next E3. However this time their is a strong chance the Sonic title will not be exclusive.
As for the excuses being made about Mega Collection, Sonic 4 and Colours. -Mega Collection should have sold far, far better on PS2 if the fanbase wasn't actually on Nintendo's consoles. Regardless of where it launched first. The PS2 had over 100,000 more consumers then Nintendo and it selling better there was a no brainer. -Sonic 4 not selling on Wii also comes as no surprise at all, Nintendo is not known for its online strengths. Nintendo's consumers still don't buy all that much digital content for a variety of reasons like hardware limitations and a lack of Nintendo's own personal initiative. -Colours is not to be compared with Generations. The two games are entirely different and yes hype and advertising have massive effects. Also I must say that the HD versions do complement the Wii versions. When the HD versions launch in a way they advertise the Wii version, people see their HD buddies playing the game in HD and pick it up for their Wii. Sonic is strongest on Nintendo platforms, denying that is foolish. Either way you look at it even if you disagree that Nintendo is Sonics bread and butter you must realize not putting it on the platform was a mistake. |
Mega Collection should have sold better?? It was a year late port. THe PS2 version should NOT have passed the Cube one period, if the fanbase was that strong on Ninty systems.
Sonic 4, if the fanbase was SO strong on Ninty systems, it should have done at least as much as the other versions. Crappy online should not have dettered the hardcore Sonic fans from picking it up. If they loved it so much they would have gotten it, its not like it wasnt the same damn game. (IPod version notwithstanding)
Im not saying it wasnt a mistake I just disagree that Ninty is it bread and butter. IMHO I think Sega was stupid for trying to make Sonic a Ninty thing. YOu keep ignoring Sonic Heroes. Wonder why?? SA1 and 2 SHOULD have at least had a PS2 port last gen, it would have done way better. Since PS2 was that much of a beast. Speaking of SA where is the online verison that the HDs got?? SOnic sells the most on the system with the biggest install. Ninty has little to do with it. PS2 versions sold better last gen and Wii versions sold better this gen. Simple
