They are probably going for the ease of dev with good compatibility while sacrificing performance route which is dumb considering how many different types of hardware the OS is supposed to run on, a really closed platform pretty much doesn't work for high variant amount of computing devices where a lot of customization is needed, they need to take some lessons from Android on this matter.
