I'm not entirely sure. I was told at PAX that the development team developed the game with 3D in mind. They even told me I had to play the game in 3D at PAX because that was how they intended it to be played. Honestly I thought 3D was a disaster on 360 and the PS3 version wasn't much better. Personally I prefered it in 2D but the 3DS game was pretty good as well.

But if 3D was Sega's focus it makes sense a Wii version never made it to market. I haven't heard if WiiU will be 3D compatable but assuming it isn't Sega might not bring it to that console either. It doesn't make sense that a 2D version never made it to Wii mainly because the 2D HD version is likely what everyone wants to play anyways.

Sega is being dumb, Nintendo's consoles are Sonic's home. Sega's consoles were directly competing with Nintendo for the exact same market base and the same consumers. Their franchises fit perfectly on Nintendo's platforms especially Sonic amd for Sega to throw a Nintendo centric title on the competitors platforms and not Nintendo's is just foolish.

I think Sega might reconsider and bring it to WiiU at launch simply because they will see the dismal sales on 360/PS3. But that will be to late WiiU is a new platform without an established user base meaning they can't sell to the installed Wii base. They will also lose out because many WiiU owners will already own PS3/360.

In the end I think Sega missed an oppurtunity to sell a million or so copies on Wii. They can't recoup that loss by launching on WiiU. In fact I think a WiiU launch would be a waste of resources. Its not that porting it wouldn't be cheap it could be done in 4 weeks or so, but the cost of manufacturing copies, getting it distributed, marketing it and getting it on shelves just doesn't seem worth it.

Sega lost out!

LOL!! Why  you mad?? All you people saying Sega screwed up, how?? Oh sure they should have been some version. but keep in mind that according to this site's own data. Sonic Generations actuall had a BIGGER opening than Colors. Im not talking combined im talking both the PS3 and 360 version separtly had a bigger opening week than Sonic Colors. So if it could keep the legs of Colors it can sell a million on each console this time next year.  Thrown in whatever the 3DS is bringing and thats not bad. So did Sega really loose out?!

Who said I'm mad, I own a 360 and already bought it on that console. I said Sega's move was dumb because lets face it Nintendo's market has traditionally been stronger then Xbox and PlayStation for Sonic titles. Look at Sonic Unleashed which was a piece of shit on Wii compared to the 360/PS3 version, the Wii version left the HD versions in the dust. Or how about looking at Sonic and Sega All Stars racing both the DS and Wii versions drastically outsold their HD counter parts. Go back a generation and see Sonic Mega Collection was actually sold almost as well on GameCube as PS2 which had over 100,000 more units on store shelves.

Today with the Mario & Sonic olympic games and all the other success Sega has had on Wii and DS and Nintendo's platforms not releasing a game as monumentous as Generations on Wii is a huge mistake.

You compare Generations to Colours but I must say that is an uneven battle at best. A) Sonic Generations is an anniversary addition B) Sonic Generations is a compilation featuring the best of the best that Sonic has ever offered C) Sonic Generations isn't on Wii and as such any Wii owners who also own other consoles are buying it there.

In the end Colors was an original new Sonic game featuring new content and gameplay. Generations is a classic built on the most successful Sonic games and levels. It was a celebratory release with way way way more advertising and hype. Anyway you look at it Sega is losing sales by not having it on the Wii. Yes same could have been said about Colours not releasing on 360/PS3 but Nintendo's consoles are Sonic's bread and butter they are the most important platforms to Sonic's survival and Sega shouldn't neglect them if at all possible.

Again not mad, just pointing out it is in Sega's best interest to launch Sonic on Nintendo platforms. Whether they also launch it on competitor platforms doesn't matter but Nintendo's platforms are where Sonic performs best.

Well you did put an exclamation point on your last sentence.  And why do you care so much that it was not released on Wii?? Chances are you were gonna get the superior game anyway which would have been the PS360/PC version, so whats the point? SOnic Unleashed?? HA, that game sucked on all consoles. But I would argue that the WIi version was actually better. THe HD version moved way to fast, to the point where he was barely controllable and the hub world sucked ass, which was not in the Wii version. But is it possible that the HD owners saw it was crap and decided to avoid it? Just saying. Mega Collection?? YOu do know that game was released on GC first?? Lets not pretend like that doesnt play a factor, you can probably count on one hand how much ports sell better than original release.

How is Colors an uneven battle, your point is that it should have been on WIi. Sure Generations got more ads as its anniversary time. BUT, if the fans are on the Ninty consoles like you claim they are NONE of the Generations versions should be doing better than Colors, unless those Wii owners are buying PS360s just for Sonic Gens or there are a hell of a lot more muliplat owners than we care to admit there are.  People like games im sure most people dont give a crap if it appeared on WIi or not at least not this late in the game.

Generations is an original game, your acting like they just recreated the levels from the original games, which would be wrong. The environments are the same but the levels are different. Thats like saying all of Bowser's castles are the same in every Mario game.

Yes there should have been a Wii version, but there wasnt. And no Ninty is not SOnic's bread and butter, thats crap. If they would put more SOnic games on HDs they would have a chance to sell. Sonic Generations had the biggest opening of any Sonic this gen. Sonic 06 was utter crap and it STILL sold a mil on each HD. I love how you forget Sonic Heroes, the PS2 version was by far the worst, but sold the best, despite the extra ads the GC version got. The SOnic Rivals game got no ads, no coverage, its mediocore, hell it wasnt even developed by any of Sega's devs and it still sold millions. Sonic 4 for Wii is behind just about any other verison of the game, even Ipod. Please lets not act like Ninty is the end all be all for SOnic.
