I woke up one day and found my nails all nibbled back to stubs! I think these aliens are part of a secret nail biting plot to harvest our cuticles. Once they know the growth rate of our nails they can watch and wait until they grow to a sufficient length to harvest and then strike. For those among us who like that kind of thing I'm sorry but anal probes are a myth. Sorry Seece but they want to nail us, not nail us.
