Game Informer started hinting yesterday at their cover story an exclusive new look at something that will rock the world. People speculated Starwars or maybe PS4 everyone was up in arms wondering what this massive cover story was going to be. Well it would appear the wait is over and this massive story is none other then South Park. Not just another tower defense game or parody knock off of a mini-game or kart racer. This time the South Park family is heading to the wonderful world of RPG's!

The press release below

South Park: The Game is an epic role-playing adventure that will allow the user to befriend Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny and explore the quiet little mountain town like never before.

"Our goal is simple: to put creative talent first," said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. "Matt and Trey are arguably two of the most important comedic talents of their generation. Bringing their vision of South Park to the interactive space is a dream-come-true."

This game isn't coming from a rookie RPG studio either it is coming from RPG veterans at Obsidian Entertainment the creators of FallOut:NewVegas, Neverwinter Knights 2 and Starwars:KnightsOfTheOldRepublic II. The game will be published by THQ a publisher looking to release higher caliber big budget quality games over its cheaper licensed crap from the past.

So far things are looking very promising, I love South Park and an RPG based on the series and helmed by Obsidian couldn't be more of a match made in heaven by my books. Though I do wonder how Obsidian will keep the cheap ass and comedic look and feel of the series while giving it the professional big budget look and appeal they are known for. I'd also like to know how much Trey and Matt are involved.

This is one game I am definitly going to follow, set to release in the second half of  2012 and I haven't seen anything indicating which platform it will come too. More info to be included in the next issue of Game Informer. What do you think is this awesome or what an RPG based on South Park from one of the best RPG studios in the industry? Is this the kind of lisensed content THQ needs rather then SpongeBob?
