Millions had SNES, millions had PS1 and even more had DS all which had this game. IMHO CT isnt really a pick up and play game anyway, but thats just me. NOt that there is anything wrong with an iOS version. I love the game myself even if its a little short and one more platform means more exposure

Everyone assumes that iOS only caters to casuals. There is a pretty large subset of people that want deep, complex, enjoyable games for iOS. These gamers' wants aren't being met very often, so its a great scenario for Square. They've done pretty well on the market with their titles.

In fact, I am feeling generous. Here's the sales list for Square titles on iOS:

  • Final Fantasy - 208,000 units ($8.99)
  • Chaos Rings - 185,000 units ($12.99)
  • Final Fantasy II - 90,000 units ($8.99)
  • Final Fantasy III -  78,000 units ($15.99)
  • Secret of Mana - 49,000 units ($8.99)
  • Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes Encore - 45,000 units ($9.99)
  • Final Fantasy III for iPad - 32,000 units ($16.99)
  • Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions - 30,000 units ($15.99)
  • Chaos Rings for iPad - 20,000 units ($15.99)

Take it for what you will, they've had pretty nice success on the platform. Their library is still selling very well on the platform, and I'd imagine that more people will buy Chrono Trigger on iOS than they did via Virtual Console.

Thats a pretty impressive list , I never knew they had that MANY games on the iOS o.o.

They actually have about twice that many games. I only included Square games and not Eidos or games selling less than 40,000 units that weren't new (ala War of the Lions)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
