FreeLancer

This game was supposed to be the spiritual successor to the brilliance that was StarLancer.  It wasn't a bad game but it was essentially hollow outside the main plot.  You have an entire universe of places to go but they all have the same generic side quests "Go here, kill these ships, come back," "Go here, escort this ship here, come back," and the like.  Tachyon:  The Fringe shows how to do side-quests right whereas this game shows how to do them wrong... very wrong.  The other problem with this game is travel.  It takes too freaking long to get anywhere and unless you have a map of every gate in every system, you are guaranteed to be taking "the long way."

Civilization

This is probably one of the most boring games ever invented.  Sitting through a game is like watching paint dry.  Sure you just completed a major construction undertaking but whoop-dee-freaking-do, you could have just spent the last 4 hours of your life having fun.  What exactly about these games is fun anyway?  The whole experience is just one big nag session.  We don't have enough roads, we don't have temples, we don't have any food!  The people of IDontCareAboutYou town are starving to death, what do you do to solve it?  The correct answer is not to provide more food, it's to let them die so the game will end faster.
