It should have been treated as such even before it got to this point. They should have known from the system's launch that they needed Super Mario 3D Land and MK7 by the first holiday season. Having these two games available will put most doom critics to rest. Forcing them into hibernation only to have them return next spring with their usual spew of misinformation.

By next spring the PS Vita will be available worldwide and struggle, so the only doom the 3DS is going to face in the near future is the one called by the people who want to see dedicated handhelds gone altogether.

It didn't stop Joel from posting that the DS and PSP have lost "market share" to smartphones completely ignoring that both systems are on their way out and first year 3DS sales.  Pretty nice to be able to make your claim when ignoring those two "minor" details.  He did try to semi stick up for Nintendo.
