Majora's Mask had the handicap of being the follow-up to the best game of all time, so by default most people didn't give it a fair chance and it took a while until it was acknowledged what a fine game it actually is.

But such semantics don't really matter. The problem is that Zelda has become the Nintendo game that takes the longest time to develop (whether it's a five year cycle or "only" three years, it is the longest) and the quality of the series isn't even maintained, much less improved. The two DS games were ultimately disappointing, especially Spirit Tracks which had huge amounts of copies ending up in the bargain bin. This speaks volumes, because Zelda isn't supposed to be bargain bin material.

The last three games that have come out of the Zelda team have been meh (PH), poor (ST) and good (SS), but not great. It's getting to the point that Zelda games sell based on brand name moreso than on their actual quality. I am not going to tolerate such a decline, because I know that Nintendo can do better than this.

I am not the only one whose expectations haven't been (fully) met. The common theme seems to be that those who have already beaten it or are close to it are less happy about the game than those who just started it. The game gets worse the longer it lasts, that's just how it is.

Let's give it a sec for the market to decide what's subpar and what isn't
