These rates of advancement often happen as a result of wars, so I'd say combining values and ethical principles with technology and knowledge would be crucial so that the last two become actually useful for the progress of humanity.

I think nowadays there's more of a capitalistic influence on technological advancement than war. Things that make people's lives better like agricultural advancement, communication, medicine, and even things like robots thrive on competition in there respective markets where people aim to come up with the best ideas and get the most money for them

I disagree. Any technological breakthrough is still held within the military because military superiority is still more valuable than capitalistic gain.

EDIT: I re-read my post, seems I was talking about non-military-ish advancements. I don't think the military has much to do with agricultural or medicinal discoveries/breakthroughs
