Yes one of the reasons Nato's forces are so good is they are always being deployed to different regions and conflict zones. A soldier in the Canadian or US army or British forces will within 2 years of service have experiances that surpasses troops with ten years in other countries. Look at armies in other countries where they operate entirely at home, yah they make great defence forces but you take those troops and you place them in a foreign country and your in trouble.
Try grabbing the best troops in Africa, any country then deploying them to Syberia. They would be massacred try deploying Chinese troops to Canada's North, they will get raped.
But Nato troops they operate everywhere. All terrain all territories and all kinds of conditions. Take Canada's forces for example they get trained in deserts, snow laden desolate territories, urban conflict zones. You name the terrain climate and conditions and the Canadian Forces train in them.
Its better to keep our forces all over the globe then keep them at home doing only disaster relief and helping out in search and rescue. Plus by deploying troops all over you re-assure allies and deter enemies. The mere presence of US forces would deter China from doing anything stupid. Also those saying China will be the number one super power, even if their economy balloons they still have to match the US military spending which is so drastically high it will take a decade for China to catch up spending wise. Then the US has so much weapons and such stock piled it would take China another 20 or so years to catch up to the weapon capabilities of the US.
By the time China catches the United States another super power could emerge. Not to mention I am guessing the US will hold onto their military dominance as long as they can, to their dying breath. China on the other hand isn't likely to put up as much of a fight, I would say it could be another 50 years before China is the legit military super power themselves. Their financial influence will be strong but when it comes to guns and troops the US will have superior fire power for a long time to come.
