Alright, so I've decided that I'm going to study to be a mechanical engineer, but I still need to choose a college. Each one has its pros and cons, but I'm still kind of unsure....
My choices are UC Berkeley, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Davis.
UC Berkeley:
+ Great/familiar campus
+ Great Reputation
+ 90 minutes from home
+ Best average salary after college
- Political views vastly different from mine
- REALLY large campus
Cal Poly: San Luis Obispo
+ Great campus
+ Small, tight-knit feel
+ Hands-on learning
+ Practically guarenteed a job afterwords
+ Professors more personal with students
- 5 hours from home
- Hard, if not impossible, to change majors
- Doesn't feel 100% right
UC San Diego
+ Great location
+ Wide variety of people
+ 1 hour plane ride from home
- Not very famous for engineering
- Too big of a campus
UC Santa Barbara
+ GEORGOUS campus
+ Fun enviornment
- Not well known for engineering
UC Davis
+ VERY close to home
+ Known for engineering
+ Know people there, familiarity
- Might have to still live at home
- not very "hands-on"
Now most of these are based off what I have heard, and should not be taken as indisputable facts. I know I don't have to choose until May, or even if I'll get accepted into ANY of these, but it's interesting to hear the opinions of VGChartz members, who often have a much different perspective from me.
Anyway, if someone has been to any of these colleges, feel free to talk about your experience and if you would recommend it.
