Headline - "The guy who gets everything wrong appears to have gotten his career wrong"

I'd be wondering who will replace him, a new video game analyst would have to be hired. Pachter is a decent analyst when it comes to the HD traditional consoles, he is old school in his thinking. He lacks the ability to understand Nintendo however and while he often has some educational insight into the HD platforms he appears to get things wrong there pretty often as well.

Honestly I think about 70% of VGChartz members with over 2,000 posts probably could give more accurate predictions and advice then Pachter. Thats despite his over whelming educational qualifications. Seriously the guy does not hide his hatred of Nintendo , if he doesn't hate them then he is by far the dumbest video game analyst when it comes to Nintendo. I'd prefer to think he is purposely saying crap about Nintendo then to think he actually believes it!

A good video game analyst needs to be able to give accurate predictions at least 50% of the time. He also needs to know enough about all three console manufacturers and the third parties that support them. Knowing a ton about 2/3rds of the industry is not good enough for someone paid as much as he is and with as much of an education.

There speaks someone who hasn't got a clue. Like I said earlier to all the haters, go watch so of his shows and tell me you could do a better job, you'll start to doubt that every quickly. He's business minded, and he knows the industry inside and out, he proclaims not to know much about games themselves, just their selling power ect.

He was bang on the mark about Nintendo needing a WiiHD though, people did lose interest, and the HD systems are still going strong ..

Again I said the guy was highly educated and really brilliant. But doesn't know all that much about how Nintendo operates or some of the other aspects of the industry. I do watch his show how else would I know what stupid stuff he is suggesting right now I'm not sure I could do a better job. I certainly could do a better job predicting what Nintendo or even Microsoft is likely to do, but I wouldn't have the knowledge or education to tell people whether to buy or sell shares or how much profits to expect etc....etc... But if I had his education I have no doubt I could do a far better job then he is. You say yourself "he proclaims not to know much about games themselves" Sorry but not knowing much about the games themselves leaves you far more ineffective then someone who actually lives for games and knows what gamers will want.

You'd be more qualified for the job then Pachter. Just listen to his latest prediction "Those rumors are silly," he said. "Microsoft is still selling a ton of Xbox 360s, and they won't replace the existing one until sales begin to slow. I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8. I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don't think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014."

I'm so sorry its one thing to suggest the Next Xbox isn't coming in 2012, that's a reasonable conclusion and is up for debate. but 2014, seriously whats Pachter smoking. Microsoft is not going to beat 360 like a dead horse for every dime they can get before jumping to the next generation.

This coming from the guy who said Nintendo had to launch WiiHD because Nintendo would fall to far behind. Pachter makes no sense most of the time, the guy might have a great business sense and education but lacks the knowledge of the industry to be effective as an industry analyst.

P.S- WiiHD, its release would have sparked a next generation console. Maybe an adapter that bumps the resolution up a bit like if you play on PC emulators that might have been an okay decision. But releasing a new hardware model built around HD, that would have been foolish for Nintendo to even consider.

Wii is still selling fairly strong, not as good as 360 but its still going strong. Its expected to have one last great Christmas and Nintendo was smart to hold off on WiiU till now. Of course I think Nintendo really did beat the dead horse, ideally Wii should have been replaced a year or so due to its technological limitations, however that would have been a suicidal move. Nintendo didn't produce hardware that could reasonably survive 5 years selling strong.

In the end WiiU is coming right when it should at the five year life cycle. The Next Xbox is over due Microsoft didn't intend for 360 to do this well the fact that they have held off till 2012 or even 2013 shows they are milking the console for as much as possible before releasing the Next Xbox which has likely been in its final development phases for the last year or so.

Anyways yes with Pachters education I would be able to do a much better job. As would you or most of the higher ranking VGChartz members. We know the games and the companies and Pachter does not. Pachter looks at the industry as a business like all the others but the games industry is unique and not like the other industries. You need to know the intricacies of the industry to give a proper prediction or analysis!
