Haha I don't know what our fellow Skyrim reviewer naz was doing in his playthrough, but I'm at level 30 now and I'm only 34 hours in the game.

But to be honest, there are some VERY easy tricks to level up fast. I almost feel like a cheater.
First I did was taking my Smithing to 100.
Simply buy Leather and the Leather Strips from a few smiths (Riverwood, Shor's Stone, Riften, White Run etc.) and create some Hide Braces. Got my Dragon Armor really fast with that.
They get new inventory every 2 days btw.

Next ist Blocking. I wasn't using the shield too much in the last 30 hours (more the bow) so an orc attacked my in a dungeon with a warhammer and I just blocked every single hit without killing him. In 10 minutes he brought me from level 20 in Blocking to 60.
Heavy Armor skill could also be easily trained with him and of course Restoration.

Maybe it helps those who want the Dragon Armor or need some level ups to get some perks.
Oh and of course the achievement when you complete a skill to 100.

I did the same, only with the massive amount of iron ores I had mines from exploring and switched between Iron Daggers and Hide Bracers. It's pretty dissapointing when you find out that Heavy Dragon Armour has less armour rating than the Daedric Equivalent (although Light Dragon Armour is the best of it's kind).

Even then, forged armour has long since lost it's usefulness for me, except for a few pieces. The Ebony Mail from Boethia is one of the best Heavy Armour in the game and the Spellbreaker >>>> Any shield I've found out (including Daedric (Legendary) and Dragon (Legendary) as well).

And yes, it still suffers the same gripes as in all Elder Scrolls game. Some skills level up too fast, thus making you level up too fast, while others level up painstainkgly slow (Alchemy takes forever to level up). Smithing and Lockpicking are the new Acrobatics >_<. I'm just waiting for a Leveling mod (like the OOO Leveling Mod for Oblivion) to take down levelling a notch (the 4x longer level up on OOO was the best).

I really liked the smithing part, but due to this exploit it's now almost useless you're right. Thankfully I have only met one Deadra so far, so smithing might become useful again to create new Heavy Armor.
I've also got too many Dragon Bones I don't really need, since you can't make weapons out of them....

I've completed the Companion Quest Line, but there is still work to do for the other Companion leaders. Unfortunately Aela died (she is stuck dead in the floor of the Companion club hose) Now I think I can't complete her side quests anymore :/
But I'm very happy that I joined the Companions so early in the game. I don't want to spoiler it for someone, but let's just say if you join and do the first 2 or so quests for them you can become immune to any kind of diseases, which should include Vampirism. Worst thing that happened to me (and many others) in Oblivion.

I've got about 40 Dragon Bones and 30 Dragon Scales, even discounting those I used to forge the Dragon set and enhance it to Legendary. Dragon attacks are too often and after a few levels, they become harmless, even on Expert (Elder Dragons can barely touch me now at level 39, I'm waiting for the Ancient Dragons to come).

The companions quest line is pretty good (better than the Fighter's Guild one in both Oblivion and Morrowind), and the Shield of Ysgrammor was part of my equipment until I found the Spellbreaker. It's a shame you let Aela die, she's the only one that offers the quest for the cure of the condition you get being part of the Circle (after doing a few quests for her).

A suggestion for those who're focusing on more melee&heavy characters: Do the Forbidden Legend quest, because the amulet you get from it is, by far, one of the best in the game.
