Another thread bites the dust. Doesn't seem as if civil conversation and discussion can take place here on Vgchartz anymore, especially on topics like these. Disappointing really.

On topic!: Sony are definantly in trouble, and it doesnt take a expert to figure that one out. Just look around, see whats selling in shops. Its all about apple and samsung these days. Sony has lost a lot of market share in so many different areas.

A few areas i actually follow and feel i can give a good suggestion on is smartphones , gaming and the Sony ecosystem (which doesn't really exist yet!).

Sony have got a bit of a niche following to their xperia smartphone range. It hasn't sold great but a lot of people were exited about the arc, and neo. The arc as a flagship device was a bit lackluster in the hardware department....and android users love strong hardware that seems to be future proof. Sony needs to come out with a stronger and sexier arc 2, that can compete with the likes of the gs2, nexus etc. They got a lot of things right with the arc, i know i as a new buyer was strongly considering the arc. Sony stil has a brand that's synonymous with quality, whereas Samsung does not. Even til this day. But that brand recognition is dwindling...fast. Main point is, android users are always willing to swap and change up phones, theres a significant market for the number 1 android superphone of the month/year, and Sony is in a position to deliver that.

As for gaming, its hard to neg the playstation brand especially when the ps3 is doing relatively well. However, going in to next gen, theres an opportunity for Sony to take back the lead. The only problem here is that Microsoft and Nintendo have that same opportunity. As it stands now, neither company has taken the lead for next gen (for obvious reasons). The other risk with gaming, is the big change in the console, handheld industries where traditional gaming is no longer the same as how its always been. There's smartphones, tablets, cloud gaming, digital downloads etc. Almost every facet of the industry is changing. And this could see other players, outside of the big three, come in and take that market.

As for the non existent Sony ecosystem...like others have said Sony needs to consolidate all of its entertainment services under one brand, so that consumers know that when they buy a Sony product that buy into the Sony ecosystem as well. Something which Sony is well capable of.

In general i think Sony needs a new image or a re-branding of some sort, just to feel fresh. A lot of people here seem to suggest that Sony is impervious to defeat....id agree that its a long way away for complete failure, but for every year of losses, things get worse, and it will become harder for them to get out of it. They need to act fast and decisively.
