I agree Runa, however atheists need to be the better people as they claim to be and not judge us to be all stupid idiots.

Crazy religious people are very ignorant and stupid.

And truth be told, those are the only ones I hate.  Crazy religious people who are ignorant and stupid.  thing is, what kind of a person would I be if I stood by and watched bad people do bad things?  Religion DOES do a lot of bad things, and a lot of bad people do bad things in the name of religion.  (such as interfering with science, protesting research, pushing intelligent designs in our schools, perpetuating that the earth is 6000 years old and dinosaurs were not real, etc).

this inherent belief that inaction is somehow more righteous than standing u p for what you believe in is fallacious, and I will not fall victim to it.  Standing by, watching a rapist do his thing or a bully beating up a nerd is not going to help anyone, it just encourages the bully to keep doing what he's doing since nobody would stand against his oppressive ways.  I really was the nerd who beat up bullies JUST because I was sick and tired of them harassing my friends, even though they knew better than to mess with me.  same deal, on a much larger scale.

True.  I always find it embarassing as a nation to the rest of the world when people are considering teaching creationism in schools.  Same when people freak out over incidents like Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl - seeing a nipple is going to curse a child for life but then will let them play super violent and bloody video games.

There is no doubt that the US has a puritanical streak in its making.  Now in Texas, the legislature has been wanting to change the textbooks to say the forefathers wanted to make this a Christian nation.

Yeah, I do get tired or being thought of as less because I don't happen to believe in some supernatural being or happenings.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.
