I would imagine there was yes, but there is no need to worry about it. If you are connected online then you get the updates as soon as they come out, if not then future games have them on the disc. Wii sports resort probably had the first one for Motion+ support, and from then onwards any game that requires the firmware update will have it included on the disc.
