Democracies in pre slavery era allowed only free people to vote. Post war era allowed every citizen to vote. Individuality (or selfhood) is the state or quality of being an individual; a person separate from other persons and possessing his or her own needs, goals, and desires. Being self expressive. Wants to be as independent as possible from society.

Funny thing, the fact that they imposed those laws regarding same sex marriage (which happened after christians took over BTW, oh those peaceful christians and their killing people), it meant that it was practiced before. So you kinda contradicted yourself.

Marriage is a contract, not a tradition, because it's reglemented by law, and creates a legal relationship between the people who partake in it. Tradition was used against the ideea of women voting.

And you really should learn what an open society is. And read a little something on law, and philosophy (and even theology). Animals are not considered to be individuals. First of all, the definition you provided says 'a person or persons', except, animals are not persons. Personhood only applies to humans.
