Nationalist fervor does not extend to patently unnecessary consumer goods. They might buy these products in lieu of foreign made goods should they choose to buy them, but that's no guarantee whatsoever that they'll want to buy one in the first place. Consumer apathy has already rotted the home console industry in Japan
